Why Did My Story Disappear?

If your story is no longer visible on the website, there are several possible reasons. This guide explains the most common causes and how you can resolve them.

1. The Story Was Retracted

If a story has been retracted, it will no longer be available on the website.

Retracting a story is typically done when a published article contains incorrect information or requires significant corrections before it is republished.

How to Retract a Story

  1. Open the Story in the CMS.
  2. Click the Kebab menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Retract.

Resolution

If the story was retracted unintentionally or is ready to be made available again, simply publish the story again. Once it is republished, it will become visible on the frontend.

Note: Retracting a story removes it from the website and moves to open state until it is published again.

2. The Story Is Not in the Published State

Only stories in the Published state are visible to readers.

If your story is in any of the following states, it will not appear on the website:

  • Open
  • Approved
  • Submitted
  • Rejected
  • Scheduled

How to Check the Story Status: Open the story in the Story Editor and verify its current status.

Resolution

If the story is in any state other than Published, complete the required workflow (if applicable) and publish the story. Once the story is published, it will be visible on the front end.

3. Collection Configuration

If your story belongs to a Collection, the collection's configuration may prevent it from appearing on the website.

For example, the collection may be configured to exclude certain stories or sections from being displayed.

What to Check

  • Confirm that the story has been added to the appropriate collection.
  • Review the collection configuration to ensure the story/section is not being excluded.

Resolution

If the story has been excluded through the collection configuration, you can update the collection settings in Bold CMS:

  1. Open the required Collection in Bold.
  2. Navigate to the Rules section.
  3. In the Exclude section.
  4. Remove the excluded collection or any exclusion rule that is preventing the story from appearing.
  5. Save the changes.

Once the exclusion is removed, the story will be eligible to appear on the frontend based on the collection configuration.

4. Technical Issues

In some cases, a story may not be visible due to temporary technical issues, platform bugs, or ongoing performance improvements.

Examples include:

  • Story rendering issues.
  • Scrollability-related bugs.
  • Temporary issues affecting content visibility on the frontend.

Resolution

If you have confirmed that:

  • the story is Published,
  • it has not been retracted, and
  • the collection configuration is correct,

but the story is still not visible, further investigation may be required.
